Central Asia 2026 Trends: Construction Tools & Building Materials

More than 750 large-scale projects are already in planning or delivery across Uzbekistan, and the national housing programme targets more than one million new homes by 2030 [1]. That pipeline is the clearest signal yet for suppliers of construction tools, fasteners, power tools and building materials.

For years, many buyers treated Central Asia as a corridor between China and Europe. The sourcing logic in 2026 is different. Uzbekistan is spending on infrastructure, housing and industrial capacity, while neighbouring buyers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan are testing shorter, more flexible supply routes [2][7].

The Central Asia International Hardware Expo (CAIHE) enters at the right point. CAIHE debuts 24–26 November 2026 at Uzexpocentre in Tashkent, organised by Koelnmesse and Inter Dialog, with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce for Machinery and Electronic Products (CCCME) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan as partners [3]. We will not quote visitor numbers for a first edition that has not yet opened. What we can say is that more than 200 international exhibitors and a regional buyer programme are already shaping the floor [3].

Below, we look at where demand is moving, which product groups deserve attention, and how a first-time buyer can approach the opportunity without overcommitting.

The Demand Base: Why Construction Supply Chains Are Being Rebuilt

The headline numbers matter, but the structure behind them matters more. More than 750 large-scale projects do not mean one order. They mean repeated demand for site-level hardware: power tools for installation teams, anchors and fasteners for MEP work, cutting discs, drill bits, abrasives, sealants, PPE and replacement parts [1][2].

Housing is a second demand engine. A target of more than one million new homes by 2030 pulls in framing materials, insulation, drywall, tile adhesives, plumbing accessories, locks, hinges and electrical installation products. Each home is a smaller order than an infrastructure project, but the volume is continuous and easier for distributors to forecast [1].

We read the market this way: when state-backed construction runs across multiple regions at once, hardware demand becomes recurring rather than project-by-project. That is the change suppliers should be preparing for.

Five Market Trends to Plan Around

1. Cordless power tools are moving from premium to standard

Lithium-ion battery platforms are no longer only a high-end specification. Buyers in the region increasingly ask for 18V and 20V cordless drills, impact drivers, angle grinders and rotary hammers because they reduce dependency on unstable site power and speed up installation work. Spare batteries and chargers are becoming a separate repeat-sales line for distributors.

2. Consumables are the quiet volume category

Fasteners, anchors, screws, cutting discs, abrasives, drill bits, saw blades and sealants may not attract attention, but they are consumed daily on active sites. For wholesalers, this is the inventory category that keeps accounts active between larger power tool purchases.

3. Building materials are shifting toward speed and efficiency

Drywall systems, lightweight blocks, insulation boards, tile adhesives, premixed mortars and aluminium profiles are gaining ground because they shorten construction cycles and fit modern multi-storey housing. Buyers are looking for materials that reduce labour time, not just materials with the lowest unit price.

4. Certification has become part of the product

Low-voltage tools fall under EAC technical regulations such as TR CU 004/2011, while machinery and equipment may require compliance with TR CU 010/2011 [4][5]. In most regulated categories, a CE mark alone is not a substitute for the required EAC certificate. Buyers who check documentation before ordering avoid delays later.

5. Regional importers are diversifying beyond old supply routes

Long lead times and logistics costs are pushing importers to look beyond traditional supply chains. Many distributors are now comparing suppliers more actively and are open to new factories, not just familiar trading companies. That creates room for serious sellers who can show consistent quality, proper certification and reliable lead times [7].

Why Tashkent Is the Least Complicated Entry Point

Uzbekistan has made market access simpler for visiting buyers. Citizens of more than 60 countries can enter Uzbekistan visa-free for up to 30 days [6]. Buyers who need a visa can usually use the e-visa route instead of a consular process [6].

Tashkent is also the practical hub. CAIHE 2026 will run at Uzexpocentre Pavilions 3 and 4, a compact environment that makes it possible to compare suppliers quickly rather than spending a day walking between distant halls [3]. The Hosted Buyer Programme and one-on-one matchmaking are designed to reduce the first-trip guesswork for international buyers [3].

We are honest about the fact that this is a first edition. That has a trade-off, and we think it favours serious buyers. Exhibitors at a debut fair tend to give more attention to early meetings, and suppliers competing for first-mover distribution relationships are often more flexible on trial orders than they would be in a mature show cycle.

A Practical Sourcing Playbook

  1. Define your product scope before arrival. List the categories you buy, your target price band, and your minimum order expectations.

  2. Build a shortlist. Use the exhibitor list and product categories to choose eight to twelve suppliers, not fifty.

  3. Ask for certification documents on site. For regulated products, request the EAC certificate or declaration and check the applicant name and validity period [4][5].

  4. Compare landed cost, not ex-factory price. Factor in transport, customs, packaging and local certification when comparing two similar quotes.

  5. Set one follow-up within 48 hours. Trade fair meetings lose value quickly if the next step is not agreed before you leave Tashkent.

If you are already planning a sourcing trip, send the CAIHE team your product list, target order volumes and certification requirements before the show. The team uses that information to route relevant exhibitor profiles ahead of time. Email zoey.yue@koelnmesse.cn or call +86-21-6390 6161 ext. 828. If you prefer to work independently, pre-register first and request the official exhibitor list.

Your Next Step: Pre-Register for CAIHE 2026

Pre-register for CAIHE 2026 before the fair. It costs nothing now and gives you access to the official exhibitor list, programme updates, and the Hosted Buyer screening process. The earlier your product list is in front of the team, the more focused your first day in Tashkent will be.

FAQ

Is Central Asia a serious hardware market, or just a transit zone?

It is both, but the market function is growing. Uzbekistan’s construction pipeline and housing programme are creating end-market demand, while Tashkent is also becoming a meeting point for neighbouring buyers. The difference now is that more of the volume is consumed inside the region rather than simply passing through [1][6].

What construction tools and building materials are most in demand?

Cordless power tools, fasteners and fixings, abrasives, drills and cutting consumables, hand tools, drywall and insulation systems, tile adhesives, PPE, and welding materials all show strong demand linked to active construction and residential work.

What certifications should I check before ordering?

At minimum, check whether the product falls under EAC Technical Regulations. Low-voltage equipment may require TR CU 004/2011, while machinery may require TR CU 010/2011 [4][5]. Ask for the certificate or declaration and verify the holder, product name and validity.

When and where is CAIHE 2026?

CAIHE, the Central Asia International Hardware Expo, takes place 24–26 November 2026 at Uzexpocentre in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The fair uses Pavilions 3 and 4 [3].

Do I need a visa to visit Uzbekistan?

Citizens of more than 60 countries can enter Uzbekistan visa-free for up to 30 days [6]. Buyers from countries not on the visa-free list can normally apply through the official e-visa system. Check current rules before booking flights.

How do I pre-register or qualify for the Hosted Buyer Programme?

Pre-register through the official CAIHE visitor registration channel. For the Hosted Buyer Programme, international buyers are screened on purchasing role, sourcing plans and product focus. The CAIHE team can help confirm which route fits your visit.
