How Uzbekistan’s Logistics Sector Is Evolving: An Expert Perspective on New Opportunities for the Region

What is driving the development of transport routes across Central Asia, and what opportunities does this create for business? An expert from the Center for Research Transport Issues under the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan will speak about these issues as part of the business programme of Central Asia International Hardware Expo 2026.
The Center for Research Transport Issues under the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan conducts a systematic study of issues within the country’s transport and logistics system, analyses industry trends and, drawing on international best practices, develops proposals to eliminate identified problems and further develop the country’s transport and logistics system. The Center’s activities cover international freight transport, the development of transport infrastructure, the improvement of logistics services and the strengthening of Uzbekistan’s transit potential.
One of the Center’s key areas of activity is identifying problems arising along international transport corridors, preparing proposals to address them and establishing prospective transport corridors. As part of this work, the Center explores opportunities to diversify international routes, expand Uzbekistan’s transport links with countries in Europe, the Caucasus, South Asia and other regions, and enhance the resilience of international supply chains.
Among the key areas of the Center’s research are the development and diversification of international transport corridors that provide Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries with access to markets in Europe, the Caucasus, South Asia and other regions. These include the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (the Middle Corridor), the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway and the prospects for developing the Trans-Afghan Transport Corridor. Particular attention is paid to expanding the geographical reach of Uzbekistan’s international transport links, including cooperation with Georgia, Belarus, Türkiye, the Republic of Korea and other countries. An important part of the Center’s work is studying opportunities to establish alternative routes, reduce dependence on individual transport directions and enhance the resilience of international supply chains. The Center also examines prospects for transport and logistics cooperation within international organisations and associations, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, the Organization of Turkic States, the Economic Cooperation Organization and the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as issues related to realising the region’s transit potential amid a changing geopolitical and economic situation. The Center’s experts also cooperate with international organisations and analytical institutions, including the World Bank, on assessing and improving Uzbekistan’s logistics system.
These areas of activity are set out in Resolution No. 305 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated 12 April 2019, “On Measures to Organise the Activities of the Center for Research Transport Issues under the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, taking into account the amendments introduced by Resolution No. 502 of the Cabinet of Ministers dated 7 August 2025, as well as in Presidential Resolution No. PP-28 dated 27 January 2025, “On Measures for the Further Development of the Transport and Logistics System of the Republic of Uzbekistan”. In particular, Resolution No. PP-28 assigns the Center additional tasks, including identifying problems affecting international transport corridors and preparing proposals to address them; establishing prospective transport corridors; improving the logistics system; developing the market for transport and logistics services and freight forwarding services; establishing a network of transport and logistics centres; and conducting a systematic analysis of problems hindering the country’s efforts to improve its position in the Logistics Performance Index (LPI).
During the presentation, “Logistics in Uzbekistan: Key Features and Opportunities”, participants will gain an understanding of the specific features of the country’s transport and logistics system, its position in regional and international supply chains, and the prospects for the development of the sector. For manufacturers, distributors and suppliers, this will provide an opportunity to view the market not only from a commercial perspective, but also from the perspective of transport accessibility, delivery routes and the development of regional connections.
In conditions where route selection, delivery times and logistics costs directly affect a company’s competitiveness, understanding transport processes becomes an important part of a strategy for entering new markets.
